Two weeks ago, I had the opportunity to get a hair change at SOHO by X’pect. The X’pect group first came around in 1998, the brainchild of Eddie Tan and Angeline Hang. With over 20 years of experience in the hair industry, Eddie has achieved several awards, most notably the 2002/03 Singapore Hairdressing Award which saw him representing the country at the Global Hair Awards in Italy.

As a team, X’pect Group has been making waves both on the local and international
stage where they swept up more than 80 awards and counting, conducted seminars
and hair shows and represented Singapore in major local and international competitions,
such as:

2002 – 2003: Overall Grand Champion
2004: Saloon Team of The Year
2005: Wella Trend Vision Awards Category Winner / Grand Champion
2006 – 2007: Wella Trend Vision Awards Category Winner
2008: Joico Visionaire Global Awards
2009: Wella Colour Competition Gold Winner / Bronze Winner
2010 – 2011: Top 5 of Goldwell Colour Zone Challenge

In the local scene, X’pect Group have been styling up a storm on the runways which
includes Alldressedup with Mercedes Benz Fashion Show, for the cameras from
television shows to photo shoots and the red carpets such as Retrolicious and
MediaCorp Radio Awards. Most recently, X’pect Group participated in Audi Fashion
Week 2014 where they did a hair show for Essential Looks 2014. X’pect Group is also proud to be the Official Hair Sponsor for SAFRA Radio.

When I had consultations prior to my hair change, my hairstylist Alex, informed me that X’pect specialises in colouring techniques. I wasn’t quite ready to part with my black hair, but then again, I am always doing things to my poor mane so anyway, he recommended creative colouring done in shades of bright red and maroon, sort of like an uneven, inverted ombre. Hairstyle wise, having my locks chopped and cropped to a bob gives off an edgier vibe, and I thought, why the hell not?

Here’s a rundown of the whole process: I had my hair washed, snipped, blow-dried, bleached, washed, blow-dried, dying, washed, blow-dried and finally, styled. The whole transformation took 5 hours!!! It was fun for me of course, sort of like an endless pampering session (it was surprisingly relaxing, especially the head massages), but my company got pretty restless by the half time mark. Honestly, it felt like I was right at home with free wi-fi, free-flow of tea made for me, playing all my iPhone games… pure bliss (I am the epitome of a couch potato).
